Do Dogs Like Fish?

, , , , , , , , , ,

Lots of dogs drool over the smell of salmon, and it’s for good reason.

Fish, such as salmon, tuna and cod, aren’t only tasty for dogs but they are really good for their health too! It’s a great source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids that are awesome for dogs’ coats. It keeps them nice and shiny!

Fish is also excellent for dogs that have delicate stomachs or other allergy problems.

Crusoe, The Dachshund, loves fish… And he even goes fishing…

But there are some disadvantages…

The main one thing to be cautious about in fish is that you want to ensure it’s fed to them without any bones. You wouldn’t want the bones to get stuck in your dog’s throat or irritate the gastrointestinal tract.

Raw fish, like raw eggs, can contain bacteria that cause food poisoning. Additionally, several types of fish like salmon, trout, shad, or sturgeon can have a parasite that leads to “fish disease” or “salmon poisoning disease.” If not treated, the disease can be fatal within 2 weeks.

I have boxers and they have always loved fish. I don’t give bones except for the softest that we humans eat. We first found how they loved them when we took them running and playing on the beach. They LOVE any fish and it is full of great natural oil for their joints.
